Parents As Partners at Ivy Academia

Parents As Partners at Ivy Academia

At Ivy Academia, a tuition-free public TK-8 elementary school in Woodland, California, community is everything.  Parents and loving caregivers are our true partners in our success as a close-knit school.  They are with us  – every step of the way –  as we shape and create bright futures with and for our amazing students. At Ivy Academia, we are proud to include our students’ WHOLE community, whoever that is, because every valued connection promotes learning and growth.

Connecting our Community

At Ivy Academia, we believe in community and connection, and family is a big part of that. Whether you give rides to school, act as your student’s #1 cheerleader, or ask the dreaded, “Got your homework done?”, these connections are important.

Parents and caregivers can check-in with our engaged TK-8 school in many ways. Our teachers are here to discuss your student’s progress and encourage you to reach out. Online, our engaged school dedicates a website section just for parental involvement

We offer many ways for parents to get involved at Ivy Academia. Want to advocate for English Learners? Join our English Learner Advisory Committee (ELAC). Like to plan, set goals and work with numbers? Our School Site Council (SSC) needs you. If you’re passionate about keeping students healthy and safe, parents are a pivotal part of our School Wellness Committee (SWC) and our School Safety Committee. Crazy about our school enrichment programs (they’re pretty cool)? Raise money and plan fundraisers on our Puma Pals Committee.

Is interacting with students in the classroom something you enjoy? Please join us! Help us in our classrooms while getting to know our students and school culture. Ditto help at any of our special events like our E-Convention Open House. We are all about engagement in our  TK-8th grade school and we want you here. We also encourage you to join us for community family nights, like our bowling night and Spring Concert in the PARKing Lot - we love having fun with you!

Can’t Spell “Partner” without “Parent”

In keeping with the California State Board of Education’s policy of parent involvement, Ivy Academia develops strong comprehensive parent involvement by using six types of involvement roles defined here:

1. Helping parents/guardians develop parenting skills to meet the basic obligations of family and life and foster conditions at home which emphasize the importance of education and learning.

2. Promoting two-way (school-to-home and home-to-school) communication about school programs and students’ progress.

3. Involving parents/guardians, with appropriate training, in instructional and support roles at the school and in other locations that help the school and students reach stated goals, objectives, and standards.

4. Providing parents/guardians with strategies and techniques for assisting their children with learning activities at home that support and extend the school’s instructional program.

5. Preparing parents/guardians to actively participate in school decision-making and develop their leadership skills in governance and advocacy.

6. Preparing parents/guardians with skills to access community and support services that strengthen school programs, family practices, and student learning and development.

Seeing caregivers play a part at our small tuition-free public school makes a deep impression on students. Not only that, but volunteering demonstrates your care and commitment to your child’s education. Parents are welcome here…and welcome to join in the fun that makes our engaged tuition-free elementary school so strong and connected. We succeed as a team, and parents and caregivers are absolutely essential to our achievements. After all, you can’t spell “partner” without “parent”.
